This is a fin-de-siècle fable, obscure yet rich in visual expressiveness. The story describes a village that thrives on glass manufacturing. The foreman of the glass factory dies, taking with him the secret formula for producing ruby glass. The factory owner exhausts every means to recover the formula, but all efforts are in vain. The calamities predicted by the prophet Hayes become reality, causing panic among the villagers. Hayes also predicts that the glass factory will be burned down, leading to mutual hatred and slaughter among people, igniting fires of war around the world. Eventually, the prophecy comes true as the factory owner, in despair, sets the factory ablaze, and the people's patience reaches its limit....
