The story takes place in France in 1915, where the famous Impressionist artist Renoir (played by Michel Bouquet) is entering the later years of his life. The death of his wife, physical ailments, and the serious injuries sustained by his son (Renoir’s son played by Vincent Rottiers) in the war have left the elderly Renoir increasingly depressed and despondent. It is during this time that a model named Andrée (played by Christa Theret) enters Renoir's life, and her youth and beauty bring a springtime renewal to his existence.
