Harold, a cautious and shy Korean-American junior analyst at an investment bank (played by John Cho), is swamped with work on what should be a relaxing weekend night. Meanwhile, his friend Kumar (played by Kal Penn) has just botched another hospital interview. This Indian-American youth, coming from a family of doctors, has been avoiding a medical career to hold on to his carefree student life. That night, after smoking some marijuana, Harold and Kumar find themselves extremely hungry, and a commercial for hamburgers from "White Castle" piques their interest. They decide to drive there, only to discover that the nearest White Castle closed down four years ago. Triggered by their craving for burgers, they embark on a quest to find White Castle, crossing the entire state of New Jersey, while also appreciating the value of their friendship along the way...
