Edith (Mia Wasikowska) is an amateur horror novelist who encounters the handsome British inventor Thomas (Tom Hiddleston). His polite and suave demeanor quickly catches Edith's attention, and their relationship develops rapidly. However, Edith's father Carter (Jim Beaver) is hostile towards Thomas and firmly opposes his daughter's association with him. At this critical moment, Carter unexpectedly dies, and Edith decisively leaves her hometown to follow Thomas to the snowy Cumberland, where a luxurious yet desolate mansion stands, known as "Crimson Peak." Welcoming Edith and Thomas is Thomas's sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain), whose strange and aggressive attitude makes Edith very uncomfortable. Soon, Edith discovers that in this seemingly living mansion, spirits linger, and countless secrets are buried.
