Dane Jensen is employed by a headhunting company, facing heavy performance metrics and fierce market competition every day, spending most of his time in the office and on the phone. The company's owner, Ed, is a profit-driven businessman who believes that a qualified salesperson should do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. Dane has what seems to be a happy family—a stay-at-home wife, Elise, and three children—but he struggles to step away from work, spending limited time with them, which leads to Elise expressing her dissatisfaction multiple times. Dane notices that his eldest son, Ryan, is gaining weight and has bruises, encouraging him to lose weight through exercise. However, the situation is not so simple. Ryan's medical examination results leave the family shocked; he has been diagnosed with leukemia. At the same time, his competitor's performance in the office is rising sharply, adding to Dane's stress as he finds himself exhausted, juggling between the office and the hospital. His priorities between work and family begin to change. He does his best to help Ryan fulfill his dream of becoming an architect by taking him to see famous buildings in Chicago. During their time together, Dane feels the child's admiration for his work, leading him to alter some of his attitudes and thoughts about his job. But just then, he receives a termination letter. Although unemployed, he stays optimistic due to his family's support. As Ryan's condition improves, Dane starts his own headhunting company, receiving help from previous clients and full support from his family.
