Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) is a reporter for the Los Angeles Times who recently ends up in the hospital due to a cycling accident. From his hospital bed, he often hears beautiful violin music nearby, which leads him to meet a brilliant violinist, Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx).
