From his hospital bed, he often hears beautiful violin music nearby, which leads him to meet a brilliant violinist, Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx). He gradually discovers that Ayers had once studied at the prestigious Juilliard School but had to drop out due to schizophrenia and now lives on the streets, performing for money. Lopez is determined to write a column about Ayers' story, so he starts to pay attention to Ayers' every move. As they get to know each other, they establish a deep friendship, and Lopez goes so far as to abandon his job and family to help Ayers achieve his musical dreams. However, Ayers' mental illness remains a barrier between them... This film is adapted from an article published by Steve Lopez in the newspaper.
