When oil worker Paul Sturgis (played by Josh Lucas) takes his family to Bahia Negra, the vibrant Mexican coastal town he once knew mysteriously collapses. In this dilapidated ghost town, the last remaining residents tell Paul that the offshore platform has awakened "El Demonio." Fearing being left alone, the family follows Paul to the platform, and just after they board, the boat and the people who brought them there are violently attacked by a massive black shark. This shark is unlike any other creature; it is a legendary beast known as the Black Devil. It claims dominion over the local waters, actively defending nature from human threats. It kills everything and continually charges at the oil drilling platform itself, weakening it and threatening to destroy it. Paul and his family, along with a few survivors, find themselves trapped, and now they discover that explosives have been set on the legs of the platform. Under constant attack from the gigantic monster, as time ticks away, Paul must find a way to keep his family alive and get them back to shore.
