In an ordinary Italian town, a middle-aged man named Marcello runs a pet grooming shop called “Dogman.” Marcello is a good person; he respects the weak, works hard, and has a good reputation among friends and neighbors. Although his daughter lives with his ex-wife, he maintains a good father-daughter relationship with her. On the surface, Marcello seems like a genuine, ordinary honest man. However, he has many bad friends, one of whom is Simone. After getting out of prison, Simone starts extorting in the neighborhood, quickly disrupting the local peace and ultimately leading to Marcello's imprisonment. After being released, Marcello faces discrimination and insults. He seeks help from Simone but is met with harsh treatment. At this point, Marcello “realizes” something; he pretends to be amiable and traps Simone in a dog cage. He only wants an apology, but during Simone's resistance, he accidentally dies. Marcello calms down and drags Simone's body into the street to prove he has sought justice. However, the townspeople leave, leaving Marcello filled with anger, sadness, numbness, and confusion.
