In the 1990s, the second-generation leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Il, took the historical stage. With his announcement of withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty, relations between North and South Korea reached unprecedented tension. In this perilous situation, both sides dispatched spies to gather intelligence, looking for opportunities to subvert each other's regimes. To sabotage North Korea's nuclear program, South Korea's National Intelligence Service recruited Colonel Park Sik-yung (played by Hwang Jung-min) and ordered him to abandon his past identity to find an opportunity to infiltrate North Korea. With passionate resolve, Park Sik-yung subsequently retired and indulged in gambling and drinking, gradually creating a new persona. After years of effort, he became a successful South Korean businessman thriving in Beijing. Hard work pays off, and he eventually made contact with Lee Myung-yun, the head of North Korea's External Economic Commission, where both sides tested each other. Meanwhile, North Korea's Ministry of State Security, led by Jung Mu-taek, sought to catch Park in the act. In a turbulent era, men ran selflessly for the beliefs they held deep in their hearts... This film is based on the true story of South Korean spy Park Chae-soo.
