A British pianist, who never performs publicly, lives in an old house. The owner leads an isolated life, only accompanied by music. She comes from Africa, her husband has been arrested due to political reasons, and she finds herself in Rome, becoming the quirky pianist's tenant and housekeeper, earning money to attend medical school. Her music is full of rhythm, and she is very much alive, fighting for survival. The eccentric pianist living upstairs becomes infatuated with the African woman downstairs in his strange way. One day, the pianist suddenly grasps her hand and declares his love. She is indifferent to him, stating that she is married and her husband is in a prison in Africa, “Help me get my husband out!” she says. He apologizes and never brings it up again. However, slowly, she notices that the artworks in the old house are mysteriously disappearing one by one, and eventually even the piano is taken away. At this point, she receives a message from her husband that he is coming. She realizes this is the result of the pianist selling his possessions as a bribe. And what will be her choice?
