Adapted from the novel by Milan Fust released in 1942, it is a variation of the "Flying Dutchman" story. Set in the 1920s, it tells the tale of Captain Jakob Storr who makes a bet with friends in a café that he will marry the first woman who walks in. Consequently, he marries a French woman and has an unhappy marriage.
