American youth Jesse (Ethan Hawke) meets French student Celine (Julie Delpy) on a train, and they enjoy a lively conversation. When the train arrives in Vienna, Jesse enthusiastically invites Celine to explore the city together, even though he has a flight to catch the next day. Celine, who has fallen for Jesse at first sight, accepts his invitation. During their city exploration, they share stories about their pasts and their thoughts on life, deepening their understanding of each other.
