In Yorkshire, England, during the Great Depression, the Gable family, led by Sam Gable (played by Donald Crisp), is impoverished, with their only valuable possession being a clever sheepdog named Lassie. Lassie is a good companion to the youngest son, Joe (played by Roddy McDowall), but due to financial constraints, Sam sells Lassie to a wealthy duke (played by Nigel Bruce). Deeply missing her owner, Lassie escapes several times. Ultimately, in the distant Scottish Highlands, Lassie begins her journey back home to her true owner. Released in 1943, the color film "Lassie Come Home" is adapted from the novel of the same name by British author Eric Knight. This universally known children's story tells the legendary journey of the intelligent sheepdog Lassie returning home. Lassie's adventures have become one of the most enduring stories, leading to multiple films, TV series, and radio dramas. The film received a nomination for Best Cinematography (Color) at the 16th Academy Awards in 1944.
