This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by contemporary French crime novelist Pierre Lemaitre, and is part of the same series as the acclaimed movie "See You Up There," which is also based on a novel of the same name. The film tells the story of Madeline, the daughter of a banker in France before World War II, who, after the death of her father, is betrayed by friends and relatives and loses everything, ultimately making a desperate counterattack and avenging herself. Starring French national treasure Fanny Ardant and Léa Drucker, who won the César Award for Best Actress for "Custody," it perfectly showcases the romantic French revenge story filled with the original work's themes, reflecting the personal and national destinies amidst the turmoil of the early 20th century. It won the César Award for Best Costume Design and received a nomination for Best Production Design in 2023.
