This film tells the coming-of-age story of Gunlala (played by Wang Jishua), the only gun-bearing Miao youth in our country. In the Miao tribe of southwest China, there are many ethnic customs passed down through generations, such as boys undergoing a coming-of-age ceremony to receive a hunting gun from their fathers at a certain age to signify their adulthood. Gunlala grew up dependent on his grandmother (played by Shi Mingma) and has never seen his father. He has asked his grandmother several times where his father is, but each time she has avoided the question. Now at the age of fifteen, his impoverished family cannot afford the 500 yuan needed for a gun, so he sets out alone to find his father. Along the way, he encounters his friend Jiaguang (played by Gundangyuan), who had been a close companion through difficult times. Unfortunately, Jiaguang meets with a tragic fate the next day, and Gunlala personally sends his friend to the afterlife. His grandmother uses the silver jewelry she has saved her whole life to buy him a gun, a gift that was originally meant to be given by his father, and only then does he realize that he is just an abandoned child...
