The film is set in modern-day Berlin, where the protagonist Wendini is a consultant for the city's development agency. Her current boyfriend suddenly breaks up with her, and at this moment, an ancient curse seems to be about to come true. In medieval legend, Wendini is a water spirit, and if the men who unite with them betray them, they will kill the men and return to the water. The female lead of the film wants to resist this curse, thus leaving Berlin. During this time, she meets Christopher, an industrial diver working in the reservoir areas of western Germany. They fall in love. Soon after, Christopher senses that Wendini seems to be escaping from something and feels betrayed... The film "Wendini" is the first installment of director Christian Petzold's planned "Elemental Spirits Trilogy." The following two parts will respectively involve the air spirit Sylph and the earth spirit Gnome.
