In August 1945, the Japanese army unconditionally surrendered. Aunt Yangjiao (played by Ding Yi) found an abandoned infant on her way back to the village. Judging by the clothes wrapping the baby, it appeared to be a Japanese child. After much hesitation, she decided to bring him home. The villagers and her family, fueled by their hatred for the Japanese, strongly opposed her adopting this enemy child. Nevertheless, the kind-hearted Aunt Yangjiao ultimately kept him and named him Gouwa, raising him as her grandson. As Gouwa grew up, he became understanding and regarded Aunt Yangjiao's mute son Hulu (played by You Yong) as a father. Unfortunately, Hulu died in a road construction accident, and Gouwa was reluctantly sent to Niu Jinchuan (played by Zhu Shibin), who had no children. Later on, as Aunt Yangjiao aged, she sent Gouwa to Cool Temple to exchange for a bride price for her daughter Xiuxiu (played by Li Ting). Twenty years later, during a visit to Japan with the national Buddhist delegation, Master Mingjing (played by Pu Cunxin) arrives in Japan, and Oshima Yoshiko (played by Kuriwara Kogane) recognizes him as her son who has been missing for decades...
