In the late Qing Dynasty in Xinjiang, the hero Xu Tianxiong saves the gold digger from the hands of bandit Ba Zhangu, who had plotted against him. Severely injured, the gold digger tells Xu Tianxiong that he must find the secret gold cave he discovered to redeem his daughter Jincao from Ba Zhangu with gold. However, before he can reveal the location of the gold cave, he dies. Xu Tianxiong, holding the deer skin pouch left behind by him, begins the search for Jincao. In Jincheng, Xu Tianxiong meets others who share a bond with the gold digger, such as Guanshan and Wang Baozi. He reveals the truth about the gold digger's tragic death, and the fellow gold diggers are filled with grief and anger. The unfortunate little Luzhu is bought by the gold digger Wang Baozi to be his "temporary wife," but she gradually finds happiness in living with the gold diggers, before ultimately sacrificing herself to save everyone. The sinister Ba Zhangu lures Jincao to search for the gold cave in order to monopolize it. Just as Ba Zhangu's henchman is about to kill her to silence her, Xu Tianxiong appears. The gold diggers finally discover gold, but a happy life does not follow...
