Rainer Winkel (played by Jürgen Vogel) is a teacher at a high school in Germany, where the school is conducting a theme week on "National Systems." Since he couldn’t teach his favorite class on "Anarchism" because another teacher got to it first, he can only lead the course on "Dictatorship." For the carefree students, any class is merely a means to earn credits. They chat loudly in class and are uninterested in the lessons. Winkel comes up with a creative idea for a hypothetical "dictatorship" experiment. During the week-long experiment, Winkel is placed in an absolute position of power, and the students must obey him unconditionally. From their initial playful attitude, these young men and women gradually become immersed in the organization called "The Wave," experiencing the importance of collective and discipline, but unknowingly sliding into the abyss of "dictatorship" and "Nazism"… This film is based on true events and won the Outstanding Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor award (Frederick Lau) at the 2008 German Film Awards.
