He (played by Daisuke Matsumoto) is a timid waiter working in a restaurant, and she (played by Bae Doona) is an outdated inflatable doll worth only over 5000 yen. During the long lonely nights, she comforts his empty soul and body. To him, she may just be a substitute for emotional attachment. Unbeknownst to him, at some point, she gains her own thoughts and consciousness, dressing up and going out alone after he goes to work, observing the bustling metropolis with her curious big eyes. Eventually, she stops at a video rental store, as if the shifting and intertwining imaginary plots on the screen mirror the extraordinary nature of her life, creating waves of emotions within her. She gradually develops feelings for a boy named Jun'ichi in the store, and in a world where everyone is born empty, her love story is not quite a story...This film is adapted from the manga of the same name by Japanese cartoonist Yukinobu Kitagawa.
