Doctor Liu Wen (played by Tony Leung) appears to be a cynical person, but he is actually very sensitive and insightful. He despises the unjust medical system and decides to run a clinic in the red-light district. Passionate about medicine, he possesses remarkable skills and practices good medical ethics towards the poor. Among his patients are brave officers (played by Louis Koo), sex workers, and others.
