The film tells the story of historian, novelist, and British intelligence officer Gertrude Bell (1868-1926), who played a significant role in establishing a new political order in the Middle East in the 1920s. Educated from a young age, Bell found it difficult to find a suitable partner in Britain, so she moved to Tehran. There, she fell in love with diplomat Henry Cadogan, who struggled with gambling addiction, but their relationship faced difficulties. Consequently, Bell decided to give up her personal life to immerse herself in the exploration of the surrounding regions. Before the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Bell studied languages in the Middle East, translated literary works, and met with Muslim officials in places like Cairo, Basra, and Baghdad. Due to her demonstrated courage, Bell earned the trust of leaders. Seemingly destined to be a bridge between the British Empire and Middle Eastern countries, she participated in delineating the borders of the nations in the region after World War I. And at this time, love re-entered her life. Werner Herzog tells the legendary epic of this "Desert Queen" against the backdrop of vast deserts.
