The news of his daughter Jessie's (Skye McCole Bartusiak) kidnapping plunges Nathan (Michael Douglas) and his family into an unprecedented crisis. The kidnapper Scott (Sean Bean) makes strange demands, asking Nathan to use his expertise as a psychiatrist to help a woman named Elizabeth (Brittany Murphy) within a week.
