Despite losing his mother's care and love at a young age, Tom (played by Louis Hofmann) grows up to be a lively and clever boy. Mischievous and uninterested in school, he often sneaks out, getting himself into a series of troubles. Huck (played by Leon Seidel) is Tom's friend, and during a chance encounter, the two sneak into a graveyard to play, inadvertently witnessing a murder. Frightened of revenge from the killer, Tom and Huck decide to embark on a journey to escape, eventually arriving on a deserted island where they begin a leisurely life. Tom's family believes he is dead, only to have him jump out at his own funeral, surprising everyone. Following this, Tom explains what happened, leading to the murderer being brought to justice. Later, Tom and Becky (played by Magali Greif) get lost in a cave but find treasure by luck.
