In the Northern Song Dynasty, an ordinary young man, Situ Yaozu (played by Zheng Kai), completes his martial arts training in a prestigious sect. Upon entering society, he discovers the harsh realities of life. He gives up his unpromising job as a constable and heads to the capital, Bianliang, in search of his life's value. In Bianliang, Situ Yaozu meets a struggling singer, Wang Er Ya (played by Pan Zhiling), and unexpectedly connects with Zhang Dingding (played by Sun Jian), a second-generation official who loves painting. Due to Zhang Dingding's father's reluctance for his son to become a prince consort due to associated dangers, Situ Yaozu inadvertently becomes Zhang's adoptive son and takes Zhang Dingding's place in the competition for the title of prince consort.
