On the streets of Moscow, blossoming young girl Lilya (Oksana Akinshina) boasts to her friends about moving to America with her mother. However, when she gets home, her mother tells her she has to stay and live with her aunt. The aunt seizes the opportunity to take over her home, forcing her into a dirty, run-down apartment. Lilya's fairy tale fantasy instantly shatters, and she finally believes she has been abandoned by her mother. Alone and helpless, Lilya can only find a bit of comfort from her only friend, a boy named Volodya (Artyom Bogucharsky). To survive, Lilya is also forced to resort to selling her body. When the kind-hearted, naive Lilya thinks she has found true love, she recklessly goes to Sweden. Little does she know, this hellish life is just beginning... Oksana Akinshina was nominated for Best Actress at the 2002 European Film Awards for this role.
