In early 20th century Sweden, society was in turmoil, with both material and spiritual life lacking. Maria (Maria Heiskanen) is an ordinary housewife managing a not-so-wealthy home. A chance lottery win grants her a camera, changing her life forever. She begins to secretly learn photography and becomes fascinated by it. She captures moments of her children's growth and the beauty she discovers around her. Gradually, she gains the ability to take photos for her neighbors and earn some money, and they are particularly satisfied with the pictures. When the king visits, she is invited to take photos as well… Of course, all this is kept secret from her alcoholic husband. Frequent photo processing brings Maria closer to the local photo shop owner, Peterson (Jesper Christensen), who recognizes her talent, praises her gifts, and encourages her to continue. A subtle affection develops between them, but it remains platonic, fading into the past, leaving only the wonderful photos that Maria captured, which still survive to this day… This film is a biopic of Maria Larsen, the first female photographer in Swedish history.
