This film tells the emotional journey of two rural boys experiencing spiritual weaning. Liangzi (Li Ming) once injured the family's hen that was laying eggs with a slingshot; the injured hen subsequently only ate food and stopped laying eggs. The mother did not want to waste food and planned to sell it at the market. When Liangzi saw the chicken dealer preparing to kill the hen in front of him, he felt an inexplicable sorrow.
