In 1941, Polish immigrant Leonard Chess (played by Adrien Brody) seeks to make a name for himself by opening a bar. Meanwhile, Mississippi sharecropper McKinley Morganfield (played by Jeffrey Wright) arrives in Chicago with dreams of music and a guitar in hand. On the streets, he meets 17-year-old harmonica prodigy Little Walter, and they hit it off, beginning to perform at Chess's bar. The ambitious Chess, using his keen intuition and business acumen, establishes Chess Records to record Waters, achieving great success. During his time running Chess Records, Chess welcomes musical talents, innovates, and creates a large number of artists who profoundly impact the American music scene... The theme song "Once in a Lifetime" received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards.
