"Blue Valentine" went through several ups and downs in its rating process, ultimately being classified as R-rated. Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams) face issues in their marriage after being together for six years. They hope to mend their relationship on Valentine's Day, purposely leaving their daughter at her grandparents' house. They also look for a romantic hotel, trying to find some new excitement to rekindle their love. However, they end up arguing about their future, and instead of healing, their relationship becomes more contentious. Dean is comfortable in his simple life with his wife and daughter, while Cindy aspires to build her own career. As their differences escalate, the happy moments from their once blissful marriage transform into painful and distressing memories. Must a relationship always endure the "seven-year itch"? Will these two former lovers, with their once-sweet marriage, ultimately end up in pieces?
