Jiang Ruoting's colleagues are unable to accept this task for various reasons, and with her wedding approaching, she is ultimately persuaded by the public welfare nature of the event and her professional ethics as a reporter. Despite pressure from her fiancé Ye Hua, she takes on the task. However, Ye Hua sets the condition that she must return quickly and not affect the wedding. Jiang Ruoting agrees wholeheartedly. Jiang Ruoting heads to her destination in South Mountain. On the long-distance bus, she accidentally captures a few mountain village children in her photos. As the bus continues, she suddenly realizes that the styles of several little girls match the theme she envisioned, so she gets off the long-distance bus to look for them. She photographs and searches along the way, and with the help of a kind-hearted older brother, she tries to find them but gets lost in the mountains. After misunderstandings are cleared, she is rescued by villagers and taken to the school where the girls are located. Eventually, guided by Teacher Fang, a local teacher, she finds the girls' home, which turns out to be a group of children of migrant workers: the sisters Shanzhao, Shantaoying, and Shanxing. Jiang Ruoting decides to stay at their home for photography. While Jiang Ruoting settles in, the sisters have a cousin named Jinhua who often forces them to do heavy labor, exhausting their already limited food supplies. However, the poor living conditions, unsanitary environment, the difficult lives of the children, their learning conditions, as well as the burden on Teacher Fang who manages the children's education and lives deeply saddens Jiang Ruoting. Thus, she decides to help Teacher Fang substitute during her free time. At this time, a female boss of a cosmetics company, Li Yanyan, sees Jiang Ruoting's report and wants to send her son, Xiaoze, to the mountain village for toughening. So she brings Xiaoze to Jiang Ruoting along with 20,000 yuan to improve the living conditions for the mountain children. Once at the mountain school, Xiaoze becomes a troublemaker and often clashes with the local children. Jiang Ruoting takes him to attend classes and live with the children, helping him fit in. Jiang Ruoting's reports also gain attention and support from netizens, and people start donating supplies for the children and the mountain school. Just as Jiang Ruoting is enjoying her time, Ye Hua calls to inform her that his grandmother is in the hospital due to heart problems. Therefore, she decides to end her filming task. Before leaving, she has a heartfelt conversation with Teacher Fang. Over fifty, Teacher Fang often struggles to care for his elderly ailing mother while teaching the children. His wife has remarried a family in the county because of their poverty. Jiang Ruoting feels paternal love through Teacher Fang. The day before her departure, Xiaoze has a conflict with Jinhua and goes missing in the deep mountains. In her panic, Jiang Ruoting leads villagers and local police in search for a day and night, eventually finding Xiaoze on the brink of death and saving his life. He also receives a lesson. Just when Jiang Ruoting and Ye Hua are meeting with their parents and grandmother for the final pre-wedding family gathering, Jinhua calls to deliver shocking news: Teacher Fang was hit by a car and fell off a mountain while riding to the county to buy vegetables. Overwhelmed with grief, Jiang Ruoting immediately starts worrying about the children of the mountain school. She then proposes to Ye Hua to postpone the wedding and go to South Mountain to teach. Ye Hua strongly opposes, leading to a fierce argument, but with her grandmother's support, Jiang Ruoting firmly returns to South Mountain to begin her teaching life. Netizens donate money and supplies for the children, and she calls on caring entrepreneurs to contribute for the construction of school facilities. With Jiang Ruoting's efforts, Li Yanyan and another company decide to fund the construction, which receives strong support from the county government. Xiaoze also takes the initiative to share her burdens, helping everyone solve living problems. The children's lives and studies begin to improve, and they become as close as a family, with the cousin of Shanzhao and Shanxing becoming Jiang Ruoting's helper. Jiang Ruoting has now integrated into the teaching and life of the mountain village, and the children are experiencing unprecedented changes in living and learning environments, thriving in their surroundings. Just then, she receives a call from Ye Hua that her grandmother is critically ill. Jiang Ruoting rushes back to Beijing day and night, only to find that her grandmother has passed away.
