This film is adapted from the play written by female author Marguerite Duras in 1968, starring French national treasure actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and newly Caesar Award-nominated Best Actor Niels Schneider. It tells the story of wealthy Mrs. Suzanna and her lover during a day at a seaside villa. Director Benoît Jacquot, who studied under Duras and is skilled at capturing the subtle changes in female psychology, uses masterful stage direction along with the changing light by the sea, combined with Gainsbourg's brilliant performance, to portray a seemingly aloof but internally anxious affluent housewife who deceives herself in marriage and emotions in a gripping way. The film was selected for the screening section of the 2021 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
