Pierre Lachenay (played by Jean Desailly) is a married writer and magazine editor who becomes attracted to the beautiful flight attendant Nicole (played by Françoise Dorléac) during a business trip. Coincidentally, the two meet at the same hotel. Pierre invites Nicole out for drinks, and they talk all night, soon falling deeply in love. As Pierre prepares to return to Paris, Nicole leaves her phone number in his notebook. Back home, Pierre secretly contacts Nicole without letting his wife Franca (played by Nelly Benedetti) know. He proactively requests business trips to Reims, just to bring Nicole along and temporarily escape from his wife and daughter. In Reims, Pierre is busy with lectures and gets into an argument with Nicole, prompting both to leave Reims early. Coincidentally, Pierre's wife calls Reims, discovers he has already left, and begins to suspect him. Later, Nicole grows tired of the relationship and leaves Pierre. Meanwhile, Franca prepares to divorce Pierre.
