The story takes place during the Qing Dynasty, where the emperor is gravely ill and can only be cured with the relics inside the little living Buddha. Upon learning this, Prince Five seeks out the abbot of the Shaolin Temple, demanding the surrender of the little living Buddha. When the abbot refuses, Prince Five attacks and bloodily wipes out the Shaolin Temple. At the abbot's request, Xin Yi (played by Li Ruotong) embarks on a journey to escape with Fuzai (played by Hu Bin), Shentong (played by Zhou Tianlong), and Chunzi (played by Chen Zhuo), along with eighteen young monks, among whom is the little living Buddha. The only one who knows the true identity of the little living Buddha is the formerly ordained Master San De (played by Liu Ximing). Xin Yi's group heads towards the ancient town of Gulong where he resides. Meanwhile, Prince Five has sent assassins in pursuit. In their time of peril, they are rescued by a man named De Rong (played by Ji Tiansheng), who teaches the young monks a style of Drunken Fist, helping the children unlock the doors to a new world.
