Maggie, the editor-in-chief of a women's fashion magazine in the United States, champions perfection and variety, taking it upon herself to lead American women's fashion. However, the magazine is recently facing a model shortage due to a lack of "thoughtful" female leads. Maggie and photographer Dick (played by Fred Astaire) come to a bookstore for a shoot, where they discover that their greatest gain from this trip is Miss Jo Stockton (played by Audrey Hepburn), the bookstore clerk who promotes empathy.
