In the mid-20th century, shrouded in despair, Chiune Sugihara (played by Toru Nakamura), born into an ordinary Japanese family, entered the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanks to his exceptional linguistic talent and intelligence analysis skills, and was dispatched to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the puppet state of Manchukuo. He demonstrated his capabilities remarkably in his work, but was deemed "unwelcome" by the Soviet Union. In 1939, Sugihara was assigned to the embassy in Lithuania, closely monitoring the movements of European powers. Shortly after, Germany launched a blitzer attack on Poland, marking the beginning of the immensely destructive and far-reaching Second World War. Due to brutal ethnic cleansing, thousands of Jews became refugees. They, with the elderly and children, sought every possible and faint opportunity for survival. Ultimately, they flocked to the Japanese embassy in Lithuania, pleading with Sugihara to issue transit visas for their escape.
