A pair of hitmen, Ken and Ray (played by Colin Farrell), arrive in the ancient city of Bruges, Belgium during Christmas, where they will receive a new assignment from their contact Harry (played by Ralph Fiennes). Ray, who recently mistakenly killed a young boy during an assassination, is filled with deep guilt and finds the wait in the ancient city to be an unbearable torture. Ken, as Ray’s mentor who introduced him to the profession, tries to help him out of this predicament, but his efforts prove futile. Bored and restless, Ray meets an actress named Chloe, a mysterious girl who leads him into a series of adventures. Meanwhile, Ken is once again pressured by Harry, who reveals that the truth of this mission is that a furious Harry wants Ray to pay for his accidental killing. Faced with the young man he brought into the world of assassins, Ken finds it hard to make a choice as the two hitmen harbor their own concerns in the dark of night… The film won the Best Screenplay award at the 2009 British Academy Awards, among other accolades.
