Clara (Mackenzie Foy) lost her mother when she was very young, who left her with only a box containing priceless treasures. Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman) is Clara's godfather, and at a gathering he hosts, a mysterious gold thread leads Clara to find the key to open the box; however, Clara is then transported to a mysterious parallel world. This is a magical world created by Clara's mother, where four kings govern their realms, and the key that Clara longs for is held by the most evil one of them all—the Sugar Plum Fairy (Helen Mirren), whose existence is causing this once peaceful and prosperous world to fall apart. Clara must team up with the kind friends she makes here to reclaim the key and shatter the Sugar Plum Fairy's rule and ambitions.
