A murder case falsely imprisons banker Andy (Tim Robbins) for the murder of his wife and her lover, condemning him to life in Shawshank prison. His first appearance in Shawshank earns the respect of the prison “Big Brother” Red (Morgan Freeman). Red helps him get a rock hammer and a poster of a movie star, and the two become close friends. Soon, Andy showcases his talents in prison by becoming the librarian and uses his financial knowledge to help the warden evade taxes, catching the warden's attention, who then recruits him to assist in money laundering. By chance, he learns that a new inmate, a thief, can testify to clear him of the murder charge. With a glimmer of hope, Andy approaches the warden, hoping for assistance in overturning his conviction. The insidious and hypocritical warden pretends to agree but secretly arranges for the thief to be killed, extinguishing Andy's only chance of a legal release. However, Andy does not despair; on a stormy night, a decades-old escape plan leads to his self-redemption and freedom! Encouraged by Andy, old friend Red also bravely runs towards freedom. The film received 10 Oscar nominations in 1995, along with nominations for the Golden Globe, Saturn Awards, and more.
