James (Ed Helms) is a police officer who, one day, meets a woman named Vanessa (Taraji P. Henson), a charming single mother. Before long, the two fall for each other. Vanessa has a 12-year-old son, Kareem (Terrence Little Gardenhigh), who is unfortunately going through a rebellious phase and is very resistant to James's presence. In an attempt to get James to leave his mother, Kareem even considers hiring a fugitive to intimidate James, but this plan brings danger to both him and his mother. Left with no choice, Kareem must team up with James to face a cold-blooded killer.
