In the ancient Nara region of Japan, the sacred mountains of Kagu, Unebi, and Miminashi stand close together, giving rise to a love poem involving two men and one woman, which has been passed down through the ages. In the small, secluded village of Baisenne, there lives a group of people who are content with their solitude. Dyed textiles artist Kayo (played by Yoko Oshima) and local history editor Tetsuya (played by Tetsuya Akikawa) are a couple living together, their feelings settled into silence, with their companionship merely a habit. On the other side of the village resides a wood sculptor named Takumi (played by Tōta Komizu), who has moved into an unmaintained house where he peacefully coexists with the swallows nesting on the ceiling light. Takumi and Kayo are childhood friends, and their long-awaited reunion ignites a love long buried in their hearts. This late-blooming affection seems to reach back to their ancestors. As the grand ruins of Fujiwara-kyō start to reveal themselves, the love triangle of these two men and one woman reaches a critical turning point... This film is adapted from Masako Bando's original work "Aya's Encounter."
