Tom Cruise won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for this film. Jimmy, the host (played by Philip Baker Hall), has little time left due to cancer, and his daughter has fallen into an obsessive infatuation with a neighbor, while his wife feels powerless. Jimmy doesn't know how to tell his daughter about his condition. Guest Stanley (played by Jeremy Blackman) is about to break the record set by Donnie (played by William H. Macy) 30 years ago, unaware that Donnie can only work at an electronics store.
