An unfortunate childhood experience forces Mei (played by Maggie Cheung) into a life of hardship, yet her heart still yearns for love. She finally meets a man she can entrust her life to, but their vastly different backgrounds make their relationship precarious, subject to the judgment of others. Bo Shi (played by Cheng Yu-ling) almost became a wife, only to discover that her boyfriend's true intention was to exploit her beauty for profit. Ji Ji (played by Chung Chor-Hung) works as a dancer to raise money to help her husband, who is in prison, but when he is released, instead of being grateful for Ji Ji's support, he abandons her, and in her pain and anger, she finally sees the cruelty of humanity. Under the control of Ma Jia-Lie (played by Hu Jin), the three dancers experience the ups and downs of life, tasting the warmth and coldness of human relationships. Meanwhile, the seemingly harsh and snobbish Ma Jia-Lie is actually a passionate woman who dares to love and hate.
