On the day of Lao Fan's (Fan Wei) birth, which happens to be April Fool's Day, he feels that his life is likely a joke. In his early years, Lao Fan's wife left him, leaving their son Xiao Fan (Liu Junhao) to live a life of mutual dependence with him. Although the father and son have a very close relationship, the tight finances and difficult living conditions cause Lao Fan to feel guilty towards Xiao Fan. On this day, Lao Fan seemingly reaches a low point in his life; first, he makes a mistake at work and is punished by his boss (Fan Tiantian), and then, through a series of misunderstandings, he angers the leader of a square dance group (Sui Kai), who seeks revenge and mocks him.
