After his father's death, Joe accompanies his mother, Katerina, to Italy for an opera performance. However, due to loneliness, he becomes addicted to drugs, causing Katerina great heartache. She indulges Joe in every way, resulting in an incestuous relationship. Under moral awakening, fortunately, no major mistakes occur. Katerina reluctantly reveals a long-hidden secret: Joe has another biological father. To reunite his parents, Joe sets out to find his real father. The director uses Freud's psychoanalytic theory to explain the behavior of this mother-son duo, arguing that all human meaning and ability stem from the demands of sexual desire. The moon serves as a symbol representing the mother and female archetype, metaphorically illustrating the mother's sexual influence on her son.
