Frank (played by John Hawkes) loses his wife, who before passing away entrusts her ashes to him with the request that he scatter them on the land of her hometown in Ireland. Thus, Frank embarks on a journey to Ireland, having to bring along his estranged son Sean (Logan Lerman) in accordance with his wife's last wish. For Sean, he is so unwilling to even see Frank, let alone travel with him. However, a series of unexpected events force him to yield temporarily and agree to his father's request to get a free plane ticket to the West Coast. Throughout the trip, the father and son frequently argue, with disagreements on nearly every matter.
