The story begins in 1964, where James (played by Armie Hammer) is an art critic. One day, he visits a solo exhibition in Paris by the famous artist Alberto Giacometti (played by Geoffrey Rush). To James's surprise, he has the fortune of meeting Giacometti himself, who invites him to his studio to be his model. With that, James begins his close encounter with this legendary artist. In the crowded and narrow studio, James witnesses the stunning talent that brings both acclaim and anguish to Giacometti. While painting James's portrait, Giacometti repeatedly tears up his completed works, as his creative process seems to hit a bottleneck. Will he ultimately finish the portrait on time?
