In 1940, Polish champion boxer Teddy participated in the armed forces defending Warsaw during the siege. When Warsaw fell, he was captured while fleeing to France and became one of the first prisoners sent to Auschwitz concentration camp. In the camp, his survival was uncertain, and the underground boxing matches, treated as a game by the Nazi soldiers, became a crucial struggle for existence. However, his repeated inspiring victories alerted the Nazi officers to the prisoners' resistance, leading to stricter controls. As conflicts escalated, winning became a brutal path to survival in the camp. Polish emerging director Maciej Barczewski's debut feature film brings the story of the overlooked Warsaw champion to the big screen. The prisoner with the number “77” won 40 fights in three years, and his struggle became a collective memory for the survivors of Auschwitz. Award-winning Polish actor Piotr Glowacki portrays one of the most “painful” characters in Polish film history through extensive, intensive physical training. "My grandfather was a concentration camp survivor, and this story has always been in my blood." -- Maciej Barczewski
