In 1936, 34-year-old Napoleon (played by Andreas Konstantinou) was arrested by Nazi Germany for his involvement in the Greek resistance movement and imprisoned in Laconia prison. It was there that an attack by Greek resistance forces on the Nazis resulted in the deaths of a Nazi general and three guards. In retaliation, the Nazis decided to exchange the lives of 50 Greek prisoners for one German. Thus, Napoleon and 199 other prisoners were set on a predetermined path. The day of execution was approaching, and camp commander Fischer (played by André Hennicke) intended to keep Napoleon in the camp as his translator, thereby giving him a chance to escape the death penalty. However, the condition for this reprieve was that Napoleon had to find another prisoner to take his place and accept the punishment. Faced with this brutal choice, Napoleon fell into a struggle within himself. He knew this decision would have profound implications for him and the other prisoners.
