Veteran agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) also has his moments of oversight. While receiving his latest mission, he falls into the trap set by the mysterious organization known as "The Syndicate." The Syndicate is a secret organization composed of former agents from around the world, previously dismissed by the CIA as an urban legend. With the help of member Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), Ethan manages to escape and promptly reports the Syndicate's existence to William Brandt (Jeremy Renner). However, Brandt is having a tough time, as the IMF agency he oversees is being accused by the CIA of incidents involving Russian nuclear warheads and is ordered to disband. Upon learning of the organization's plot to assassinate the President of Austria, Ethan contacts his old partner Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) to take action, and he reunites with the enigmatic Ilsa.
